Final Week Ahead for 2022

Dear Friends

As 2022 draws to a close and we enter the holiday, we invite you to take this time of R&R to reflect on your past year and what you would like to invest in the coming year. Sri Sri Radha Radhanath Temple is open to you, so please take full advantage of the Love Feasts, special events, morning program, various services, and Vaishnava association.

In the new year, we will welcome His Grace Kshudi Das (ACBSP), a pioneer in ISKCON South Africa. He has a wealth of ISKCON history in South Africa. We will also welcome Her Grace Aruddha Devi Dasi, author of the Srimad Bhagavatam Comprehensive Guide for Young Readers. She will offer a one-day course: The Art of Krishna Conscious Parenting on Saturday 21 January 2023. Parents and those involved in children’s education will significantly benefit from this course. This is a wonderful opportunity for parents to offer quality of spiritual education to their children.

Bhakti Theatre
Saturday 31 December @7:30pm

Temple Amphitheatre
As the year draws to a close, some paths come to an end. Which paths those are — we decide. Turning left or right based on the power of the mind isn’t always what would set our soul alight. But…if offered the chance, would you consider a different path? One that started at the end and allowed for no pretense? Dare you choose a path with no familiar face, but…one that would lead you to a place only accessible by faith. Come watch the riveting drama: Dharma – A Journey of Three Steps. Filled with suspense, trickery, politics, sabotage, honour, promises, faith, and trust, this drama includes shadow theatre, dance, and martial arts. Written and directed by Gaura Bhumi Dasi. Tickets are on sale at Radhanath’s Gifts from Friday 16 December. A minimum donation of R50 per ticket.

Friday 25 November 2022

Week Ahead 25 November – 9 December 2022

Dear Friends

Today, November 25 marks the UN’s International Day to End Violence Against Women. This year, ISKCON’s Vaishnavi Ministry will join the UN’s global 16 days of activism against gender-based violence.

As Vaishnavas, we are mandated by our scriptures and tradition to protect the vulnerable and those placed in our love and care, including “the brāhmaṇas, the cows, the women, the children, and the old men” [Srimad Bhagavatam 1.8.5 Purport]. Abuse is a severe violation of the essential practices of Krishna consciousness and Vaishnava culture. Vaishnava culture requires cultivating qualities such as mercy, self-discipline, and compassion. Abuse undermines and destroys these qualities.

From 25 November to 10 December the Vaishnavi Ministry will discuss gender-based violence and domestic abuse, ISKCON’s official policies to combat such abuse, and Srila Prabhupada’s teachings on how devotees should treat each other. You can follow the campaign on ISKCON Vaishnavi Ministry’s Facebook and YouTube channels. Please find all topics in the Week Ahead schedule. Note all talks will be available from 4pm on each day.

Share ISKCON News Responsibly
We encourage the community to be wary of sensationalised and inaccurate news that finds its way to you via email, Social Media, or WhatsApp. You can help combat the spread of misinformation and fake news.

Here are some tips on how you can stay informed and help shut down fake news:
1. Get your updates from official ISKCON Durban channels, including iskcondurban.net, our official Social Media channels: @DurbanKrishna on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube.
2. Make use of trusted and accredited media sources to find information. Dandavats and ISKCON News are the two reliable sources of information.
3. Before forwarding any information, do your own fact-checking and make sure the info is true and accurate.
4. If you come across disturbing news please reach out to the temple: temple@iskcondurban.net.

Protecting Sri Sri Radha Radhanath’s Garden
Recently two beloved trees, a King Palm and an Ashoka on the “Krishna” side of the garden became irreversibly infected by the Polyphagous Shothole Borer beetle. This beetle is foreign to our lands and is infecting various areas throughout South Africa. Unfortunately, there is no cure nor prevention of infection. Only early detection can save a tree. These two trees have not survived the infection and have left their bodies. The trees have been cut down to ensure there is no spread of the beetle throughout the garden. We are grateful to these trees for providing beauty and shelter to the community.
