Sri Krishna Janmashtami Festival Report
Since we did not conduct a foot count over the festival, we cannot confirm the actual number of visitors. However, we can share the number of plates of prasad distributed:
1) Ratha-yatra (Sunday 18 August) – 2000 plates
2) Bangladesh Market Festival (Saturday 17 August) – 1900 plates
3) Women’s Day (Friday 9 August) – 350 plates
4) Learners Cultural Fest (Thursday 22 August) – 700 plates
5) Elderly Devotee Care (Saturday 17 August) – 300 plates
6) Seniors Cultural Fest (Wednesday 21 August) – 850 plates
7) Janmashtami Festival (Friday 23 August) – 19880 plates
8) Welbedatch Prasad Distribution – 300 plates
9) Srila Prabhupada’s Vyasa-puja (Saturday 24 August) – 3000 plates

The Durban South Nama-hattas hosted thirteen hall festivals in local areas.
Bhakti Yoga Society on UKZN Howard and UKZN Westville campuses hosted two parades with harinam and book & cupcake distribution. The parades were linked to Bhakti Cloud – a creative arts festival.

The community offered Srila Prabhupada 1140 food offerings on his Vyasa-puja.
Daily Darshan (Janmashtami Day, Midnight and Srila Prabhupada’s Vyasa-puja) reach on Instagram was 4500 and on Facebook: 44326 with 394 shares.

The population in Durban is around 3 million. This year 1% of the population attended the festival, with your help we would like 2% of the population to attend the 2020 festival.

Note About Food Offerings on Srila Prabhupada’s Vyasa-puja
Alternatives to single-use plastics are plastic containers from Govinda’s (these are non-single use plastics), biodegradable packaging (Woolies carries a good range), or foil containers. All offerings in whatever packaging will be accepted but if possible, please try to find alternatives.
