Nrsimhadeva Festival Details and Other News

The celebration of the divine appearance of Lord Nrsimhadeva, the half-man half-lion avatar of Lord Vishnu, has been observed for millennia in India and is now celebrated world-wide. Sri Sri Radha Radhanath Temple will honor this day by holding events throughout the day on Saturday, May 2nd. Traditionally, bhakti-yogis honor Sri Nrsimhadeva as the protector of His devotees and the destroyer of all obstacles and difficulties on the path of devotion. Our speakers will share insights on the the role devotion to Nrismhadeva plays on the path of Bhakti. We warmly invite you to spend the day with us:

His Grace Vibhu Caitanya Prabhu will be giving the Nrsimhadeva Festival class at ISKCON Pietermaritzburg at 4pm. 

The Bhakti Yoga Society (university cultivation programme) is hosting a retreat for students from campuses across Durban. The retreat runs from Thursday, 30 April until Sunday, 3 May. These students have chosen to spend their long weekend with us learning and practicing devotion. When you see them, please make them feel welcome.

You are invited to join Rathim Krishna Prabhu, who has been invited to the Bahai Centre in Glenwood (5 Bartle Road) on Thursday the 30th April from 18:30 - 20:30. He will be representing ISKCON in the PEACE THIS TOGETHER EVENT.

Food For Life in Nepal
ISKCON worldwide is assisting the devotees in Nepal who will is currently assisting in providing food, shelter, medical and rescue relief to all victims. ISKCON Durban also extends a helping hand to those who have lost their loved ones, their homes and possessions. A special fund has been set-up offer aid. These funds will be directed to ISKCON Nepal. We hoisted our 30th anniversary banner on the side of the temple bridge on Tuesday. Our Sri Sri Radha Radhanath have blessed us in innumerable ways. They have accepted our uninterrupted service since the temple opening in October 1985. Over the years we have been able to offer them a new altar, kitchen, dressing rooms, garland making rooms, sewing rooms, etc. They are the heart of this community. We will be sharing our celebration plans in the coming weeks. For now, we encourage all of you to proudly wear a 30th anniversary T-shirt, apron or bag (available at the temple gift store).

Dear Friends,

All glories to Lord Jagannath.

I trust you enjoyed the 27th Durban Festival of Chariots. Many of you helped tremendously with some coming in at one in the morning and others finishing at eleven at night.  I am enlivened to see devotees working together and sacrificing their personal time to spread Lord Jagannath’s mercy. 

I hope you all visited us at the Radha Radhanath Tent (which was marked as Take Care of Krishna) at the festival site. I hope you feel inspired to be part of Sri Sri Radha Radhanath’s many goals for this year, and have made personal commitments to Their Lordships. I am looking forward to celebrating Sri Sri Radha Radhanatha Temple’s 30th anniversary in October with you. 

Most of all, I wish to thank each and every one of you for making the Durban Festival of Chariots a joyous celebration.

I pray that Jagannath, Baladev and Subhadra Devi bless all of us and continue to inspire many years of Chariot Festivals attracting thousands to their lotus feet.

Chariot Parade Routes
Friday, 3 April at 10.30am
Starting opposite Tropicana Hotel on OR Tambo Parade (Upper Marine Parade) at the car park, proceeding north towards Blue Waters Hotel. At Blue Waters Hotel, turning left going down Sandile Thusi Road and then turning left into Sylvester Ntuli Road and finally entering the festival site. This route is 2.8km.
Monday, 6 April at 5pm
Starting at the festival site, turning right into Sylvester Ntuli Road, turning left at the robots into Somtseu Road, then left into Snell Parade, heading towards Blue Waters Hotel, then turning left going down Sandile Thusi Road and then left into Sylvester Ntuli Road and finally entering the festival site. This route is 1.5km.
