Week Ahead 14 - 20 June: Be A Sage

Dear Friends

Hare Krishna

We invite you to a simple but powerful way to enhance your every day - read one chapter of Bhagavad-gita a day (CHAD). By reciting Bhagavad-gita, we get to know Krishna better. Simply by giving our attention to this everyday for a minimum of 7 minutes, we accumulate tremendous amount of spiritual wealth that can never be taken away. Srila Prabhupada comments: “Anywhere Bhagavad-gita is chanted, that place becomes a tirtha [a holy place].” (Srila Prabhupada Lilamrta)

Devotees across the world have joined this programme. You can read their testimonials or register (if you like) at http://www.readchad.com

We are in the process of setting up our own CHAD support. You can join our mailing group by sending a mail to temple@iskcondurban.net. Alternatively you can download the convenient verse and translation format from http://www.readchad.com/downloads-2/

You will find attached the "Reading Target in Pages per Day". This guide will help you complete all the major Vaishnava literatures from within one month to 5 years.

Our Family Business this Weekend

Message from the Book Distribution Minister for South Africa

Dear Rasasthali Dasi

Hare Krishna

For the first time the South African Book Distribution Ministry, Sanbonani Krishna, will host a National Sankirtan Festival. I call it a festival because it is a celebration of a tradition that is most dear to our past and present spiritual masters. Srila Prabhupada considered it our family business and the basis for spreading the Krishna Consciousness Movement.

His Grace Vaisesika Prabhu will be the facilitator. I am aware that many of you may not know Vaisesika Prabhu, but I can assure you that he will transform the way we approach our sadhana, devotional service, how we deal with one another, and most importantly, our book distribution. And he told me that its going to be a lot of fun.

Even if you rarely or never distribute books, I encourage you to come. Devotees from Cape Town, Port Elizabeth, East London, Bloemfontein, and Gauteng have already registered. You may register via: temple@iskcondurban.net or the Temple Reception 031 403 3328 or Krishna Baladev Das 082 551 8047.

I look forward to celebrating with you on Saturday.

Weekend of Conscious Devotion

Dear Friends

Hare Krishna

We welcome His Holiness Jayadvaita Swami on Sunday, 29 May.

We have received an encouraging response for attandance to the Vows and Commitments workshop by His Grace Mahatma Das. If you are still doubtful of attending, Mahatma Prabhu shares:

"This training offers those who have taken initiation an opportunity to re-commit to their vows with greater depth and determination. For those aspiring for initiation, this seminar offers deep insight into what it takes to maintain vows throughout one's life. Those who currently don't plan to take initiation will understand why vows are important for their spiritual advancement, what vows are realistic for them, and how to follow them. And, you will get to explore your personal word of honor, level of integrity, level of personal responsibility."

For his full message please go to: https://www.facebook.com/notes/iskcon-durban/why-attend-the-vows-commitments-seminar/1280996178581981

Next Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday, Mahatma Prabhu will also facilitate a three-session workshop to devotees engaged in cultivation services. It is a must for book distributors, university cultivators, Nama-hatta cultivators, Bhaktivedanta College teachers, devotees serving at the temple book table, etc.
